Nod from USA Today among items discussed at Maryville City Council meeting

The Maryville City Council met in regular session earlier this week. Items on the agenda included the Maryville Chamber of Commerce and Maryville Spoofhound Athletic Boosters Community Pep Rally, as well as the 2nd Annual Ben's Stockings of Hope Fun Run.

City Manager Greg McDanel added that the city also considered an ordinance for an agreement with Maryville Transfer, LLC.

"City Council approved an extension for another year of the transfer station lease with Maryville Transfer, LLC.  It's a local consortium of haulers that currently operate the Maryville Transfer Station on behalf of the public."

Additionally, the city approved a contract with Rodriguez Mechanical Contractors Incorporated to convert a private sanitary sewer to a public sewer in the area of 13th Street and Mulberry.

"This will assist property owners who have been experiencing back-ups and issues with a lengthy private sewer line.  The project will probably get started in the next 30 days, probably a 30 to 60 day construction window."

McDanel also made note of the attention Maryville has been receiving from millennial.

"Certainly it's a testament to this community reinvesting in itself and continuing having all the organizations - Northwest Missouri State University, City of Maryville, industry, health care - all moving in the same direction to create something special here.  And definitely the U.S.A Today listing was a nod to that special place that we're creating."

Millenials, or "Generation Y," refers to individuals born from the early 80s to the late 90s, or today's 24-to-35-year-olds. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 13.3% of people living in Maryville are millennial that moved there in 2017, more than almost any other city in the country.
